History
At Wethersfield School, we view history not only as simple facts but encourage pupils to become detectives who explore the past in an exciting way. History is taught through a topic based approach and gives pupils a chance to explore a wide range of sources from which the past may come alive.
Through these research opportunities, the children learn how to compare and contrast; examine how things have changed, as well as their effects on events and countries.
We teach children to be open minded and enquiring thinkers who understand cause and effect. We want them to understand how people have lived in the past and compare this to modern life.
We encourage first hand experiences wherever possible with visits and visitors enhancing the children’s learning.
Ancient Athens or Ancient Sparta
Debating Which was Better
09/03/2022.
In history this week, Class 3 have been learning about the similarities and differences between Ancient Athens and Ancient Sparta. We decided to have a class debate to challenge our thinking further about which was the best place for Ancient Greeks to live. Both teams gave an excellent case for their argument, but in the end, we all decided that Sparta was the better place to be, especially if you were a woman.
